- The terraces near the station have very tall rooms. Is full height always right?
- For storage, usually yes — in a narrow Victorian room the only direction left is up, and stopping a run at picture-rail height throws away the most useful metre in the house. For shelving it is the opposite: above about 2.1m you are storing things you will never reach, so the top of the run wants to be doors, not open shelves.
- Does being near the river change what you build with?
- It changes the specification rather than the design. Closer to the Wey we assume more atmospheric moisture and more seasonal movement, which means tanalised stock for anything outside, generous tolerances on scribes, and no melamine-faced board anywhere near ground level where it can wick.
